time estimate field is read only

Daniel martin (10122926) | asked Aug 15 '11, 3:15 p.m.
I have a project area where the Estimate is clearly NOT defined as read only. I can edit the field from the client without a problem. The estimates I input through the client do not appear on the web, and I am unable to edit the field, including time spent, and correction via the web. Has anyone see this before, and know how to solve the problem.

Your best bet is to work directly with Rational Support. Some of the
things they will ask you is what version of the server you are running,
what web browser you are using (type and version), and what specific
display in the browser you are looking at (work items appear in editors,
plans, and other places). If the estimate field does not appear in the
display you are looking at, then it probably is not defined to show up
in that view.

Geoff

i will open a PMR, i was hoping to avoid the hassle of doing that, but this problem doesn't appear to be an easy one for me to solve. The field shows up in both IE, firefox, but is somehow configured to be read only. I can edit it through the client, but the changes fail to appear in either IE or firefox. Lets hope support can solve the problem. I will post the resolution soon.. hopefully

Is it possible this has something to do with being a process template where the time spent should be input on the Time Tracking tab? IIRC the Formal process template defaults to this behavior.

Yes, I try to use the formal process template for the new project area. On the workitems, we want to set estimate, correction and time spent values. How can I enable to edit ? According to our scenario, the developers will have a role (test, developer, analyst) and we will add some custom attributes and other basic processes ,that's why we selected the template, . Should we change the template?

I can set it on eclipse, rbd, but I can't set or see estimate, time spent value on web side.

When I create a task in a project area initialized with the formal
process management template in RTC-4.0 M6 milestone, the estimate field
is visible can be edited through the web browser (in both Firefox and
Chrome). So what you are seeing is not the intended behavior.

You'll probably need to work with Rational support, giving them the
usual information (RTC version, client and server platform, web browser
type and version), so they can try to reproduce the problem.

Geoff

Hi,

I found out that as soon the Time Tracking is enabled the Timespent field of the workitems view is disabled and shows the aggrigated values of the time tracking entry. This normal because you should enter the time spent in the time tracking.

However there seems to be a bug in the RTC Plans: the time spent field in the planning is not disabled and as soon I modify it there the time tracking values are deleted without any warning!

Is there already a work item for this?

This certainly sounds like a bug. I'd suggest filing a defect work item on jazz.net, but after you've filled in the summary and filed-against fields, select the "find potential duplicates" operation. If you find one, just add a comment to that work item indicating you've encountered it as well, and add any additional info that you think might help the dev team track it down (and delete your unfiled work item). If you do not find one, fill out the Description field, and submit.

Cheers,
Geoff
